Call for Entries: Art Explosion Juried Exhibit & Public Contest

The Great Northern Art Explosion is a multi-day summer public art exhibition hosted by AuSable Artisan Village art center of Grayling, MI, in partnership with Kirtland Community College. The exhibit is open to the public to view and vote August 8-22, 2020, with an awards reception on August 23rd. Four artists will be awarded $8,000.


How to Apply

Any artist in the United States at least 18 years old can submit their artwork to Art Explosion. Artist entry fee is $40. Open to all mediums.

Call for Artists: E-Exhibitions

The Anton Art Center has accepted an invitation from E-Exhibitions to become a new co-partner for their next global open call for artists, along with several other international co-partnering organizations.


E-Exhibitions is an artist-run initiative based in Lahore, Pakistan, to curate online exhibitions accessible to all, worldwide. The independent curators and collaborators (including the Anton Art Center and other co-partners) will be utilizing their social media and/or website platforms for virtual display of the selected art and artists for exhibit. Curators include Hira Siddiqui, Mahaa Ashraf, Robella Ahmad, and Umnah Laraib.


How to Apply

All artists are welcome to participate by providing their artist statement, short biography, portfolio of (4) artwork images, portrait photo, and contact information (phone and email), emailed to the exhibit team at There is no thematic or medium restrictions.

Call for Michigan Art Entries: Pivot Juried Exhibit

These are pivotal times and this exhibit aims to help capture the creativity that comes from it. Anyone from Michigan is encouraged to submit works of art, music, or videos to be featured as part of a virtual exhibit. Artists may enter up to three works per person.


The virtual exhibit opens on August 4th. This exhibit aims to recognize the extraordinary stories from parents, teachers, students, frontline workers, and all Michiganders as we pivoted to our homes. Submit your pivot story (with or without art) of the challenges you faced.

A jury of teachers, artists, and community leaders will choose the Pivot Award winner and 11 other runners up. Winners may choose to be included in a calendar.

The Detroit News' Celebrate Michigan Photo Contest

May 27, 2020

The Detroit News invites photographers across the state to participate in their 'Celebrate Michigan Photo Contest'. The summer-long contest offers three categories:
  • People and Places

  • Woods and Wildlife

  • Four-Season Fun

Artists may enter as often they like, as long as they were the photographer and the photo wasn’t selected as a Celebrate Michigan finalist in previous years.
Each week, judges from the Detroit News photo staff will select 4 photo finalists, 16 total in each category over the entire contest period. At the end of the contest, The Detroit News photo staff judges will select one winner in each category. One People's Choice winner in each category will be chosen by an online public vote, Aug. 20-24.
Each of the six winners will receive $300. At the end of the contest, three Awards of Excellence will be chosen by the Detroit News photo staff from the remaining finalists of all three themes, and will receive $100 each.

Minigrants for Artists & Arts Organizations

The Anton Art Center is the Region 10A Regranting Agency for the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA), and will award minigrants to nonprofit organizations, schools, municipalities, and individual professional artists in Macomb and Oakland counties in support of arts and culture programming and professional or organizational development.

Deadlines for FY 2021​ Round 1: 11:59 p.m. EST, August 3, 2020


Minigrants will be awarded in two categories:

  • Arts and Culture Projects – organizations may apply for grants of up to $4,000.

  • Professional or Organizational Development – individual professional artists and organizations may apply for grants of up to $1,500.


Michigan non-profit organizations, schools, municipalities and individual artists are eligible to apply for activities that take place between October 1st, 2020 and September 30th, 2021 (individual professional artists are only eligible for professional development support).


The Anton Art Center will offer a series of FREE informational workshops on minigrant guidelines and the application process. Funds are awarded on a competitive basis, and organizations will benefit from submitting a well-written grant application and supporting materials which conform to the guidelines.


Attending an application workshop will help applicants understand what is required for a competitive application. Though not required, new and prospective applicants are encouraged to attend one of these workshops.
