How Art Helps the Community

ABOUT US

The Anton Art Center has been a longstanding force for the arts in Mount Clemens and Macomb County, with growing visibility and programming, near-pre-pandemic levels of participation and support, and a lot of excitement about where the Anton is headed.

We are thankful to look back favorably on many recent accomplishments in 2023:

  • We hosted fifteen exhibits featuring national, statewide, local, and student artists with in-person receptions and gallery events

  • Our outreach programming brought 22 days of free artmaking to locations around Macomb County with a number of different partners

  • Through ongoing efforts with our Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Council, we hosted a series of community conversations and commissioned a new public artwork entitled “Power” by Mount Clemens native Jay Hero with accompanying poem “Silence is a Sound” by acclaimed Detroit poet and musician Jessica care Moore; the artwork was recently completed and installed on the west façade of the Anton Art Center’s modern addition

  • With the City of Mount Clemens, we were granted a National Register of Historic Places listing for the Anton’s historic Carnegie Library building

  • We received recognition from the Macomb Business Awards (inaugural “Small But Mighty” category winner) and Eastpointe Roseville Chamber of Commerce (“You Made A Difference” award)

Through our work to foster a love of the arts in children and adults, we see a need to expand the number of classes offered and continue working to become a more welcoming and inclusive organization. Your support will help to continue art programming for all, and ensure the Anton Art Center continues to be a local organization that sees and serves the needs of its community.
